Electric Vehicles, Explained

There are many different low- or zero-emissions vehicles available, and new technologies are emerging at a rapid pace. Today's most common EV options fall into the following categories.

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)

BEVs run solely on electric power stored in a large battery pack. Without an internal combustion engine, they produce zero emissions. BEVs are charged by plugging them into a charging station or a standard electrical outlet.

Plug-in Hybrid Eletric Vehicles (PHEVs)

PHEVs combine an electric motor and a gasoline or diesel engine. They can be plugged in to charge, and operate in electric-only mode for a limited range before the internal combustion engine kicks in.

Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs)

HEVs have both an electric motor and an internal combustion engine. They rely on regenerative braking to recharge the small battery and assist the engine, improving fuel efficiency.

Why Buy Electric?

There are numerous benefits for you and the planet when you purchase an electric or hybrid vehicle. Check them out!

Reduced Environmental Impact.

With low to no greenhouse gas emissions, hybrids and EVs help reduce air pollution. Plus, electric motors are significantly more energy efficient than traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Enhanced Performance and Ride

EVs are quick to accelerate and known for their quiet and smooth operation, leading to a sportier and more comfortable driving experience

Lower Operating Costs

Charging an EV is generally more cost efficient than fueling a traditional car with gas. And with fewer moving parts and no need for oil changes, EVs typically require less maintenance.

Advanced Technology

EVs often integrate the world’s most cutting-edge technologies, improving the driving experience inside- and-out.

Government Incentives

There are a number of tax credits and other incentives available to help amplify the adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles. Learn more about the current tax credits.

Charging Convenience

With an EV, owners have the convenience of charging their vehicles at home, which can save the time and hassle required to stop at a gas station. Plus, as more and more charging stations are built nationwide, it’s easier than ever to own an EV and travel on extended journeys.

Maintenance Made Easy!

Because EVs have simpler drivetrains and fewer moving parts, they generally require less maintenance than traditional gas- powered vehicles. However, there is still some necessary maintenance that EV owners should be aware of:

  • Tire Maintenance: Regularly check tire pressure and tread depth.
  • rake Maintenance: Check and replace brake pads and rotors when they show signs of wear.
  • Coolant System: Check the coolant levels and follow manufacturer recommendations for maintenance.
  • Cabin Air Filter: Inspect and replace the cabin air filter according to the manufacturer’s guidelines to maintain air quality in the interior.
  • HVAC System: Regularly check and service the HVAC system as needed.
  • Battery Maintenance: Battery maintenance is minimal for most EVs. However, follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for checking and maintaining the battery, which may include periodic inspections and software updates.
  • Charging Equipment: Clean the charging connector and the charging port on the vehicle to maintain a secure connection.
  • Software Updates: Manufacturers often release software updates for EVs to enhance performance, address potential issues, and improve battery management. Stay informed about these updates and have them installed as needed.
  • High-Voltage System Safety Checks: Inspect and maintain the high-voltage components, which includes the battery and related systems. This should only be performed by trained technicians who are familiar with EVs.
  • General Vehicle Inspection: Perform routine inspections, such as checking lights, wipers, and suspension components.
