Lowry Great Lawn Park

When Lowry Air Force Base closed in 1994, the quasi-governmental Lowry Redevelopment Authority (LRA) was created by the cities of Denver and Aurora to redevelop the base. The vision was to create a new urban community based on the best of classic Denver neighborhoods, including committing 35% of the development to parks and open space.

We have been part of several projects associated with this redevelopment, and are most proud of the community centerpiece, the Lowry Great Lawn Park. This park features approximately 50 acres of open space, including large lawns, picnic areas, playgrounds, bridges, trails, roads, and native areas. The greatest feature is the integration of Westerly Creek, which winds around the west side of the lawn, narrowing and widening into ponds.

ACC self-performed more than 80% of the work on this project with our own forces. We handled earthwork, drainage, concrete and crushed gravel paths, water features, artistic flatwork, park features, landscaping, and irrigation.
